Year 3 have made a fabulous start to the school year. They
have been very busy thinking and learning about how to eat healthily, how to
exercise to keep healthy and how to solve problems and puzzles to keep the mind
active and focused! In addition to this, year 3 have been writing in the
narrative genre and looking carefully at how they can plan and act out stories.
Children are looking forward to starting their Ancient Egypt topic next week!
Year3 Sep 2015
As the term goes on, the children in year 3 are developing
their skills across all subject areas. They have been fortunate enough to have
a guest author come and visit recently, to encourage them to continue their
love of story writing and reading. The year 3 children have also been very busy
in the Brain Souq – an area which helps to exercise your brain with a variety
of ever-changing activities. These activities foster independence and
self-assessment. The Brain Souq also helps the children to learn to make their
own decisions and to direct their own learning – it is an invaluable resource.
We have been studying the Ancient Egyptians and we are very much looking
forward to our upcoming Ancient Egypt Day – there may even be a few surprises
in store! With such fun and engaging lessons it’s no wonder the children in
year three are so happy at Al Muna.

As Term 1 draws to a close it is amazing to look back and
reflect on the progress our Year 3 children have made in such a short time!
They have all adapted well to new routines, new teachers, new learning, new
topics and new extra-curricular opportunities. This term we have studied the
Ancient Egyptians and we were even lucky enough to be loaned an important
artefact from the British Museum! Can you believe that Howard Carter even paid
us a visit?! One of the highlights of the term was a lovely trip to Mushrif
Central Park where we identified plant species, went on an animal scavenger
hunt, created Islamic art and made origami boats to sail in the wadi. During
the term we were also visited by actors who performed the Jungle Book and from
this we designed artwork. All the adults working with Year 3 are so proud of
the progress they are making and the maturity they show on a daily basis. It is
so wonderful to see all the children using our Golden Rules!
As this term continues
to scurry along we have been very busy in the year three area. We all enjoyed
the competitive element that surrounded another action packed sports day along
with a special visit from the author of ninety nine children’s books, Alan
Durant. Students have really been getting stuck in to our topic of Australia,
we have studied its landscape using maps and planned out the route taken in the
adventure book we are reading, ‘Are we there yet’. Students have enjoyed taking
a closer look at the unique animals that can be found in the land down under
and have thought particularly hard about words that describe how they move.

This month in Year 3 we
have continued our focus on Australia, after finishing some absolutely
wonderful adventure stories we have now turned our attention to factual based
writing. Students have spent time using the internet to research key facts
about an Australian animal of their choice and then created superb paragraphs
of writing under different sub-headings. Science has really grabbed the
student’s attention this term, we have been studying plants and how they grow,
we really enjoyed conducting some interesting experiments and predicting what
we think will happen. The ‘The Little World Discovery Center’ was arguably the
highlight of the term so far, with all the students thoroughly enjoying the
wide range of activities that were on offer there. Next term we have our topic
‘All the World’s a Stage’ to look forward to.

May Y3 2016
The children in year 3 we have been continuing with our topic
‘All the World’s a Stage’ and have been exploring the features of play scripts.
We have been writing our own play scripts making sure we include all the
features including colons, character names and stage directions! We also
researched William Shakespeare and The Globe Theatre and turned these in to
fact files and even raps!
Through Art and DT, we have been designing puppets, taking in
to careful consideration the design of the puppet and the materials we will
use. We were very lucky to go to Yas Mall for the Children’s Film Festival. The
children enjoyed watching a range of short films, as well as trying the
delicious popcorn too!
Year 3 also took part in a swimming gala. It was fantastic to
see the children take part performing different swimming strokes, and how much
their skills have improved since the beginning of the year
