Year 5 have had an excellent start to the year! We have been
thinking about how to stay healthy and persuading each other to be as healthy
as possible. We have also been learning and following the new Golden Rules,
managing to fill up our Good Choices jars and having plenty of rewards for our
hard work and efforts.

Year 5 had
an amazing time at NYU building a city out of cardboard boxes! We built lots of
interesting buildings but then a new rule was given to us: all of the city had
to be tunnels! We created some really long and winding tunnels – one of which
Miss Parkin nearly got lost in because it was so long and twisting! After that
we were challenged to build the tallest tower possible, a group of our boys won
the competition, well done all of year 5.

On Monday 9th November year 5 went to Al Bateen School to
meet the astronaut Robert Curbeam. He gave us a very interesting talk about
what life is like in space and we were even able to ask him some questions.
Some lucky children were able to speak to him in person at the end and some of
us received a signed photo. He has inspired us greatly and we are now looking
forward to our space topic next term even more!

Year 5 had a fantastic time on our residential trip. We conquered new
and exciting challenges including the ‘leap of faith’ and the ‘Indiana bridge’.
Everyone showed fantastic team work and listening skills. The instructors and
our teachers were all very impressed with us.

Year 5 have been lucky enough to use the coding equipment which is
shared between all of the year 5 schools this term. We were able to write an
algorithm (set of instructions) to make the lights turn on, alternate and some
of us even managed to make them turn on and off with a switch.

Year 5 had
a great time during Book Week. We created character boxes and made books of our
own alternative fairy stories then went to share them with FS2. It was so much
fun!
