Year 5 have
had a jam packed start the term! We began by thinking about playground games.
We created some of our own and taught them to the year 3 children. We learnt a
new game called ‘Kho-Kho’ from our teaching assistants and wrote instructions
on how to play our own games. We then received a letter from our head master
explaining that playtimes were banned unless we could explain why we thought
they were necessary! We used our persuasive skills and techniques to write a
letter back using emotive language and persuasive devices!
looking forward to the rest of the term where we will learn about space and the
solar system! We can’t wait to design and make a shock absorbing landing system
as part of our upcoming STEM week and look forward to our space themed trip
later in the month.
fantastic month we’ve had here in Year 5. Everyone has really embraced our
whole school theme of ‘Excellence’ have seen fantastic work being produced
across many subjects. Students have really embrace our topic of space, they
have produced a newspaper report of the first ever moon landing, created a
detailed biography about either Neil Armstrong or Tim Peake and compiled a
detailed fact file about a planet of their choice. During our excellence week
all students took part in many challenges that allowed them to display their
brilliance, well done to all those that took part, especially during the end of
week ‘Excellence’ assembly that was performed in front of parents.

Wow, what an amazing first term we have had in Year 5. The
work the children have produced both in and out of school as part of their
Space unit has really been ‘out of this world’!!
We have had so many amazing experiences to remember along
the way too. Trips to My World, exhibitions from famous local artists, dressing
up for Space Day, being part of the F1 Yasalam parade, making moon landers and
robots – the list goes on!
All the children can feel very proud of their efforts so far
and all of us teachers can’t wait for term 2!

Year 5 have been having such a great
term so far. We have been learning all about water! So far this term we have
learnt all about the water cycle, ways to save water and how water is cleaned.
We also had a super time on our Captain Tony’s boat trip. We took a trip to a
mangrove island to learn all about the habitat and the animals that live there.
We saw ostriches, flamingos, crabs and unusual plants.
We are now looking forward to
learning more about water in our upcoming science day by doing some wacky water

It’s been a fantastic term for everyone in Year 5.
Highlights have included our trip to explore the mangroves around the city,
international day, trips to the theatre to see world class science shows, and
to enjoy Al Bateen’s wonderful production of The Wizard of Oz. These
experiences, combined with all the varied learning we have enjoyed in school on
our topics of water and Japan have made term 2 a truly memorable one!
Year 5 March 2017
This term sees us focusing on our
topic of the Vikings, with such a wide topic there are many areas of their
life, culture and exploration for us to discover. We plan to make good use of
ICT when creating bright and vibrant Viking fact file that will help others to learn
interesting facts about these fascinating people. We are very much looking
forward to having our Viking day half way through the term, students will dress
up in Viking style clothes and will have a day of challenging Viking related
tasks in the classroom. During Literacy we’ll be reading the book ‘The Littlest
Viking’ as well as writing our own Viking Saga, newspaper reports and poetry.
We really do have a busy and fun final term planned for our Year 5 pupils.
