We have had a great start to our new circus topic in year 2 and the children are excited to find out more about different circus acts. We have been thinking about where the circus originated from and looked at the history and geography of circus acts around the world. This week we are going on our robotics trip. We are excited to learn more about 3D modelling and computer control skills as this is what we have been during computing and technology lessons. We have really been working hard on our sentence structuring and storytelling. We have looked at the story ‘Circus Escape’ and thought about the structure and wow words that have been used. This week we are writing our own version of the story by changing certain aspects but keeping to the same structure. Year 2 are becoming super mathematicians as we recognise numbers up to and sometimes beyond 1000 and can add and subtract using partitioning and number lines! We are also practising counting on in 2s, 5s and 10s and continuing sequences. During science we have been investigating materials and their properties. This week we are thinking about how we can find out if a material is waterproof. We have decided that in some countries and circus tent needs to be made from waterproof materials due to the weather.
The last few weeks have been really busy and exciting in
year 2. Our circus week was a great success! All of the children created circus
information booklets and included a contents page and glossary. We practiced
various acts including acrobatics, juggling and clown acts and then performed
these at our circus show to our families.
We made tickets using PowerPoint and
designed and made popcorn holders. It was so much fun and helped us to imagine
what it would be like to be in a real circus!
We had a lovely mother’s day week where we designed, made
and evaluated many items for our mums.
We started off going on a pottery trip
and made a pinch pot. We also designed and made pop up cards, artistic flowers,
cakes and wrote poems. We loved performing these to our mums and sharing the
gifts that we made.
Now we are working very hard to put on a play in a week. We
are making costumes, scenery, props, learning songs music and dance. It is
going to be a great performance!
What a busy and productive start Year 2 have had! We have been enjoying getting to know everyone in our new classes. We have been creating lovely art work and literacy work for our displays as well as doing some brilliant reading! In maths we have been partitioning and ordering numbers. We are looking forward to learning more about numbers. In science we have been learning about being healthy and thinking about our senses. We have tasted different fruits and vegetables, it was so much fun! We are looking forward to our trip to Lulu’s and all our other exciting work!
What a wonderful term we have had in year 2. Ian Billings visited year 2 where we learnt all about how to create super characters and settings for our stories. We all enjoyed the Aladdin performance and used this to create stories and shape poems. In Design and technology we designed and created our own magic carpets. We trialed different techniques used with materials. Visiting Urban Bites was another highlight to our term. Making our own salads and learning about a range of healthy foods was so much fun. During the National Day celebrations we created flags and cards to celebrate. Visiting the heritage village helped us learn even more about the UAE. In ICT we created an Islamic tile, which then was repeated across the screen. We have been working so hard and have learnt so many things we can’t wait to learn more!
We made an excellent start to the new term in Year 2 and were
really excited to start our new topic all about dinosaurs! In literacy we
discovered a secret dinosaur island and became news reporters thinking of interesting
questions about the island and its inhabitants! Using our ICT skills we became
researchers and found lots of new fun facts about these terrible lizards using
books and the internet. We then moved on to developing our writing skills by
writing exciting dinosaur stories. We found a bone, a huge dinosaur footprint
and a magical carpet. We wrote a story about going on an adventure to a
dinosaur island. In our maths lessons
this term, we have continued to improve our number skills. We have practised
doubling and halving numbers by sharing and partitioning as well as developing
addition and subtraction by using visual maths. We also worked on finding
fractions of shapes as well as finding equivalent fractions using our times
table skills. In our topic lessons we thought about what the Earth might have looked
like billions of years ago and created a dinosaur landscape using watercolor
paints. We thought about how animals are suited to their habitats and created
food chains. In the coming weeks we look forward to learning more interesting
facts about these terrible lizards!
What fun we are having this
term in year 2 lerning all about dinosurs! In our literacy lessons we have been
developing our writring skills through ‘Talk Writing’ strategies. We have been
using mystery objects as a stimulus to write amazing stories. In maths we have
been learning to measure using cm and mm and g and kg. We have been measuring
dinosaurs using rulers as well as
measuring ‘dinosaur food’ packages using the weighing scales. This term in our
topic lessons, we have been creating printing tiles depciting dinosaur
landscapes and dinsaur symbols. We have been using special paints to create
perfect prints! Lats week we went on a fantastic trip to the Grand Mosque and
learnt all about it’s history.
