To help us with our persuasive adverts for our pizza companies we started off the week with a pizza tasting session. We used our senses to evaluate and form an opinion of different style pizzas. We shared this with our partners so that we could think about what toppings to include on our own pizza. This has helped us come up with a variety of ways to persuade someone to try our pizzas. We have considered the layout, language and images that adverts used to persuade people to try and buy their product and the children have had some phenomenal ideas of their own! Fantastic work this week! Well done everyone!
Our School Year 4
Year 4 have started our new science topic on sound.
We began by thinking about what we know already and discussing any
questions we have that we would like to find the answers to throughout
the topic. We were then engaged in a carousel of activities that
included exploring how musical instruments make sounds, researching how
animals hear and whether animals with the biggest ears have the best
hearing and using scientific vocabulary to describe the different sounds
we could hear on a ‘sound journey’. We are looking forward to exploring
this topic in more depth and developing on what we already know.
Everyone in Year 4 has returned after winter break enthusiastic and ready to learn.
The children were extremely creative during our ‘Roots and Shoots’ themed week
and produced some terrific ‘trashion’ that was modeled on the catwalk in
assembly. Our topic for the rest of the term is ‘They see the world like this’.
We will explore the work of different artists to define how they interpret the
world around them. We will then use this as a stimulus to create our own
interpretation of the UAE, using the techniques that we will develop throughout
the term. We will also be planning a ‘Lights Out’ day were no electricity can
be used in the school. We will decide how to introduce this idea to the school
and monitor that everyone, including Mr Howsen, uses as little electricity as
possible on this day.
Our first term in Year 4 has been filled with
fun, fantasy and as always, lots of learning! We have really enjoyed being
creative with our topic ‘How is the world a fantasy?’ and have let our
imaginations run wild. We used the story ‘The Magician’s Shop’ as a stimulus
for some descriptive writing and even got to meet the magician in his shop. We
watched him make potions and perform magic tricks. This enabled us to write
wonderful character descriptions. After thoroughly enjoying the performance of
‘Aladdin’ we used atlases to decide where we would travel to if we had a magic
carpet. We also thought about what are three wishes would be if we had the
magic lamp. The story that the children enjoyed the most was ‘The Lion, The
Witch and The Wardrobe’. We wrote a variety of setting descriptions for Narnia
and also came up with alternative endings. We also created non-fiction
information booklets about the seven natural wonders of the world. We explored
where in the world they are and why they are so phenomenal. Thank you to
everyone in Year 4 for making the first term such a magical one.
