Year 1 have had a wonderful start to the year, getting to know
our new classes. We are loving being on the big playground and have learnt lots
of new games we can play. When in classes, we have been learning lots of fun
things and playing independently in the shared area. There are lots of
activities we get to do and new challenges every week in our shared area, like
counting in the maths area, creating our café in the role play area and writing
about our favourite fruit in the writing area. In classes we have been learning
about our rules and routines and we are super at remembering what we need to do
in class. In science we have been learning about our body, naming our body
parts and thinking about our senses. We are so excited to see what other
excellent things we will learn!
we have been learning so many new things in year 1. We have learnt to count,
order and pay for things with money. In English we have been retelling and
creating our own stories, as well as learning about menus and recipes. We had
to use our speaking and listening skills to create a jam sandwich following
each other’s instructions. In our topic lessons we have learnt about our bodies
and ways to keep healthy, as well as designing and making our own healthy
snacks. We had our first Al Muna Excellence week where we all tried our best at
a range of challenges. We had to write, spell, be scientific, creative and much
more. We had a celebratory assembly to share all our talents!

we started our topic Habitats. We began by looking at under the sea. In Maths we developed our understanding of
subtraction using a range of resources and moving onto visual maths. We also started looking at doubling and
halving. In English, we have been retelling and creating our own stories, using
the story of the rainbow fish. In our topic lessons we have learnt about
animals and what they eat. We have
looked at herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. We finished the month with
International week. We spent time
looking at the counties South Africa, Australia and Italy. We learnt about foods they eat and famous art
we carried on with our topic Habitats. We have been looking at Polar Regions
and the jungle! In Maths we developed
our understanding of time using analogue clocks to read o’clock and half past. We also used all skills to solve maths
missions. In English, we have been learning and writing and rhyming our own
rhyming poems about jungle animals. In
our topic lessons we have continued with our understanding of animal
classification and the features of birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians and mammals.
Year 1 have had a jam
packed start to the term! We started off with book week where we learnt about
the character love monster. We were able to label the monster using adjectives
to describe him and captions to describe what was happening in pictures. In science
we have learnt about the parts of a plant. We can label a plant and have even
sketched plants when we went on our trip to Umm Al Emarat park. We have used
our knowledge of half and quarter to be able to direct people around maps and
mazes. We also used left and right correctly to make sure we turned the correct
way. In class we had to direct around a maze and make sure we did not land on a
monster. When we went to the park we directed each other around the rainforest
paths to get from one end to the other. We really enjoyed using the park as a
place to do outdoor learning and used iPads to take photos of plants too!
Another special day we have had has been our Nanny and Driver appreciation day.
We know they do so much for us and it was so nice to say thank you to them!
We can’t wait to see
what the next few weeks have in store for us, with 2 more trips before the end
of the term, a monster mash ball and even more!
