Year 4 have been studying the topic of Rome. This will and next we will be looking at Opera. Through this the children will be learning the elements of opera and doing a project on the Sydney Opera House.
Year 1 have been exploring sounds in music. Here we have been looking at Carnival of the Animals and trying to listen for clues to help us figure out which animal is which.
This term, in music, all year groups have been working very hard and covered a wide range of projects, songs , dances and practical work. We have been working on our theory based work where the children can name the basic music notes and give their note values. This is their first step towards reading music and progressing further into the music field.
FS1 have been working on their timing and rhythm skills. Here the children learned a number of dances including the popular “Pirate Dance” and their favorite “Baby Shark”. Towards the end of term FS1 were working on their theory and became quite competent with the names and values of our music notes.
FS2 have been working on their dance skills and practicing their singing skills and improving their musical ability. They too have been working on their theory skills and have a good knowledge to set the basis for practical and music theory work.
Year 1 have been working hard on their song writing skills. Here the children worked in groups and wrote songs about school, different habitats and were able to perform them with music to the rest of their peers.
Year 2 had a great term learning all about their acting and drama skills. Here the children worked on the familiar production of Jack and the Beanstalk. We looked at the characters and had a go at changing the ending to their own personal group performances. Here the children had a lot of fun and came up with some very creative and interesting ideas to share with the class.
Year 3 had the topic “Music of the World”. Here we looked a music from across the globe and focused on traditions of song and dance. From this, the children created group projects which are being proudly displayed in the music corridor at school.
Year 4 had a similar task at hand with the topic “Dances of the world”. Here the children created projects as we focused on dances from all over the world. Following that, year 4 started their work with music technology and were creating patterns and laying down basic tracks with the software “Isle of Tune”. Here the children had a lot of fun and learned the basics for recording and creating a track.
Year 5 were working on researching the composer Handel and his piece “Water Music”. Here the children looked at his life and works and his contribution to the music world. Following their interest in the topic, the children created projects on their findings which are displayed in the music corridor.
Year 6 were looking at the topic “Freaks of Nature”. Here the children looked at the life and works of the Beatles, Elvis and Michael Jackson.
Following their interest in the topic each class helped to build a class display and project on each of the artists. Here the children found new respect and regard for older artists and found that they are not that out of date after all!
Finally all year groups have been working on the preparations for Drama Week. Here the children are very excited and eager to perform their version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
A good rest is well deserved and we are all looking forward to the new challenges in term 3.
