All of the FS1 teachers and key workers are so proud of how well the children have settled into life at Al Muna. They are getting used to the daily routines and gaining confidence exploring the classrooms, shared area and outside. They are beginning to learn the names of the other children in their class and make new friends. The children have also enjoyed singing a wide range of nursery rhymes and songs. They are trying really hard with this as they want to be able to sing as many as possible for the sponsored Eid event (28.09.14 details to follow). How many do you think they'll be able to learn? Please check the 'weekly overviews' to see which ones we are learning and help them practise at home. Thank you for your continued support :)
Wow! What a busy term. FS1 have really enjoyed this term’s theme ‘Food Glorious Food’. They have made their own pancakes using ‘Dora’s Eggs’, bread for our ‘Big Breakfast’ and gingerbread to sell at the ‘Winter Souq’. They have loved reading ‘Handa’s Surprise’, ‘Oliver’s Fruit Salad’ and ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. Other highlights included our trips to the Heritage Village and Saadiyat beach where all the children were very concerned about the amount of litter and of course our annual celebration for National Day. Happy 43rd birthday the UAE!
We have had such a fantastic start to 2015 in FS1 with ‘Roots and Shoots’ week. During this week we learnt all about an amazing lady called Jane Goodall and about the chimpanzees she looked after in Africa. We learnt that chimpanzees have lots of similarities to us and we even made some really big chimpanzees by drawing around our friends and using recycled newspaper. We even made recycled footballs! We learnt all about recycling and made some fantastic shakers which we played alongside our chimpanzee song; Jane Goodall even watched the video we made of the song, she loved it! A great start to term 2!
What a term we have had in FS1, you must have heard all the roaring coming from our shared area! We have been learning about dinosaurs! We became palaeontologists at Al Bateen Beach and can you believe it we found some dinosaur fossils! We’ve made dinosaur eggs, dinosaur bones and even learnt a song all about a T-Rex. We also learnt all about the hawksbill turtles we have in the oceans around Abu Dhabi and how to look after them. We went to the beach at the Park Hyatt and pretended to be turtles crawling through fishing nets and plastic bottles. We had lots of fun!
Once upon a time… Can
you guess what theme we have been learning in FS1 this term? Yes, you guessed
it, traditional tales. We have been making porridge for the Three Bears as
naughty Goldilocks ate all of theirs! As well as building bridges and ‘trip
trapping’ over them like the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have focused a lot
this term on acting out the stories, we have had some pretty scary trolls! We
finished off our theme with Prince Charming’s Ball which was fabulous. It was a
very busy time as we had to help Prince Charming with all of the organising! We
made decorations, designed Cinderella’s dress and made the invitations.
