Welcome back to Al Muna, we are settling back to
school. We are having great fun making new friends in FS2 after our summer
holidays. We have been busy learning about eating healthy lunches and making
good choices that make us proud. We are looking forward to learning all about
space and aliens.
FS2 Sep 2015-16
Space and aliens was a really
successful topic in FS2 this term. The kids had lots of fun learning about the
planets, they even talked about how they would care for their own alien! Our
shared area was always a busy place with lots of space activities going on and
a favourite was definitely the rocket where lots of role play took
This half term in FS2, we learned all about the jungle. As
we learned new sounds, we were able to write sentences about animals and draw
diagrams with labels. Our shared area and classrooms were full of role play all
about going on jungle safaris. There were even reports of tigers roaming around
the FS playground!!
The children showed how amazing their maths skills really
were and have learned about halving, measuring using our hands, adding, one
more and one less… the list goes on!
One of our favourite days was National Day celebrations when
we got to learn all about why this day is so special to the UAE. The older
children in the school came down to tell us all about the UAE and we taught
them some things too!
It’s been another busy term, we’re looking forward to the
new one already!!
FS2 Dec 2015
We have had a brilliant start to term 2. First of all we
would like to welcome Ms. Lydon to Al Muna. We are very happy she has joined
FS2 this year and we know that she will be very happy in the Owls class.
Week 1 was a very exciting week where we learned all about
how to be safe. We practised crossing the
road safely and learnt a song that reminds us to always put our seat belts on..
“click it, click it, everybody click it, put your seatbelt on”. Then after that
exciting week we moved onto an even more exciting topic….. Aaaarrrrggg Pirates.
This topic was loads of fun and we learned new vocabulary such as ‘porthole’
and ‘cutlass’. We wrote sentences about what we saw when we looked through the
porthole and we even made our own treasure maps. However the most fun of all
was our Pirate Day. We got to dress up as pirates and sang
our pirate song in front of our mums and dads. It was fantastic. We even got to
make our own submarine sandwiches. We can’t wait to see what topic is coming
FS2 Jan 2016
This half term in FS2 we have been continuing our learning
about Pirates. Throughout the topic we have spent time reading pirate stories,
making treasure maps, following instructions and writing our own pirate
stories! We also went on a trip to the Bateen beach where we had lots of fun
hunting for treasure, searching for shells, making sandcastles and splashing in
the sea. We have recently started our Superhero topic which we are super
excited about!! We are learning the difference between superheroes and
villains. We have been given the special task of designing clothing to protect
the superhero, Catman, from the baddies. We came up with lots of fantastic
ideas such as shields, capes, helmets and magic wands. Next we wrote a set of
instructions to help Catman understand how to use the inventions. FS2 were also
lucky enough to visit the theatre where we watched ‘The Owl Who Was Afraid of
the Dark’ which was really entertaining and funny. We are now looking forward
to learning more about superheroes and going on our next trip to Mushrif Park!
FS2 March 2016
What a busy start to the summer
term! Our topic this term is
‘All the World’s a Stage’. We have been researching the famous playwright,
William Shakespeare and looking at the features of play scripts, in preparation
for writing our own play. In Art and DT, we have explored the history of
puppets and are now designing and making our own puppet.
The children have fully embraced
our Book Week, which has seen the children take part in a variety of activities
including buddy reading with another class. The children enjoyed reading their
favourite stories to younger members of the school. We have also dressed up as
characters from a story and created story bunting for the library based on our
favourite book. We were extremely lucky to have author, Nick Arnold visit the
school and demonstrate experiments from his Horrible Science books, some
children were lucky enough to take part in a few experiments as well!
We were also attended the awesome Ministry of Science
show this week. Whilst we were there, we got to see loads of brilliant
scientific demonstrations, some students were even lucky enough to be chosen to
go on stage to help out. We saw explosions, liquid nitrogen experiments,
rockets and much more
